Our Story
About ABIOSH
The people who set our standards have delivered health and safety training both in the UK and internationally. They are supported in course development by university academics, industry professionals and other subject specialists.
Why we exist
While assessing and delivering UK-recognised courses for overseas markets, one thing became clear: those courses didn’t meet the needs of learners in other countries. What relevance does the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 have to a worker in the United States, where the governing legislation is the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970?
ABIOSH was created to close that gap — qualifications built around the legislation and working conditions that actually apply where our learners are.

ABIOSH began with a simple belief — that trust is earned through integrity and transparency. As an independent awarding body, we are free to put that principle first, helping organisations create safe environments for their employees and clients.

We use only approved, qualified instructors. Every one is occupationally competent and holds the relevant occupational qualifications for the courses they deliver.
